Say Geek - System Check Virus

I ran into one of the nastiest viruses I have ever seen yesterday at work. It is called the System Check virus. It propagates through hacked advertisements on websites. Some of the things that you see to clue you in about this virus are as follows:

  • You get delayed write failed messages.
  • A lot of windows pop up saying you have a failing hard drive.
  •  A window pops up wanting you to scan and fix. This is the virus. If you click scan and fix you get a fake scan that finds tons of fake problems.
I am not going to lie to you. If you get this virus it's the worst. If you are not a computer savvy person then consider taking it to a pro. If you like a challenge then the best resource I have found is on a website called Here is the link to the specific article. Let me warn you to read the whole thing. There are a lot of steps and you have to be able to download several tools to get this fixed. If you have questions I will be glad to try and help you if I can. Just leave a comment.

  1. I have just come across this virus at work and am currently surfing through the net looking for resolutions.

Thanks for your information, If I find an easier process than Bleepingcomputers' I will let you know but so far it is the most accurate

  2. Thanks for the comment. I hope it works out for you!

  3. Normally what I used to do in such cases was formatting of the disk. I have no such problems since I use avast antivirus.
